Heritage Tuners

Built for players who notice the details.

The Heritage Tuner Company was created to serve players, builders, collectors, and repair shops who understand that small parts matter.

A tuner may seem simple, but when it becomes stiff, slips, binds, or fails to hold pitch, the whole instrument changes. Tuning becomes less predictable. The feel becomes less familiar. On vintage instruments, replacement can also raise a bigger concern: originality.

That is where The Heritage Tuner Company began.

Founded by Dean Meece, a longtime player with a deep interest in banjos, vintage hardware, and the mechanical details that make instruments feel right, the company focuses on restoring tuners whenever possible rather than replacing them unnecessarily.

Dean’s work is grounded in a simple belief: the original tuners are often still the right tuners for the instrument. They may just need careful service.

Repair first. Replace only when it makes sense.

Most tuners that come through the shop can be restored to smooth, dependable operation. The work often includes cleaning, corrosion removal, inspection, lubrication, adjustment, and testing.

This repair-first approach is especially important for collectors and owners of vintage instruments who want to preserve originality while returning the instrument to reliable use. It also serves players who simply want their instrument to feel right again.

While the company is rooted in banjo work, Dean has also received growing interest from guitar players, mandolin players, collectors, and luthiers who need help with vintage tuner service. That broader focus is part of the reason behind the name The Heritage Tuner Company. It leaves room to serve stringed instruments beyond one category while keeping the same standard of care.
